Who we are and why we built this
ChordSwitch was founded on May 25, 2026 by Slava Vechir. The goal was straightforward: build the simplest, fastest chord transposer on the internet, no account required, no paywalls, no distractions. Just paste your chords and get results.
Transposing chords is something guitarists, singers, and musicians need to do constantly. A vocalist needs a song moved down two keys. A beginner wants to use open chord shapes in a key that normally requires barre chords. Two musicians playing together need to find a common key. The math behind it is simple, but doing it manually for a full chord chart is tedious and error-prone. ChordSwitch handles it instantly, for any chord chart, no matter how long.
Most tools that existed were either buried inside large music apps behind signups, cluttered with ads, or simply not reliable with complex chord names and inline lyrics. ChordSwitch was built to fix that, a dedicated, focused tool that does one thing well.
ChordSwitch has two core features. The chord transposer lets you paste any chord chart, including charts with lyrics and chords written inline, select your original key and target key, and get the transposed version instantly. It handles simple chords like G and Am all the way through complex extensions like Bbmaj7, F#m7b5, and Dsus4, and it correctly identifies chord names without accidentally converting regular words that happen to contain note letters.
The capo calculator lets you pick a chord shape key and a capo fret position, and shows you the sounding key, the key your guitar will actually be in. It also displays a full reference grid of every chord shape and fret combination so you can quickly scan for the position that gives you the key you need with the shapes you already know.
ChordSwitch is and will remain free. There are no usage limits, no accounts, and no subscription tiers. The tool runs entirely in your browser, nothing is sent to a server, which also means it works offline once the page has loaded. Privacy is straightforward: we don't collect your chord charts, we don't store anything you paste, and we don't track what you transpose.
The site is supported by advertising, which keeps it free for everyone. We keep ads minimal and non-intrusive. The tool always comes first.
